Home euthanasia for dogs in London
When your dog is nearing the end of their life, you do not have to make one more difficult journey to a veterinary practice. I come to your home so your dog can remain somewhere familiar, surrounded by the people they trust.
The Gentle Vet provides private home euthanasia for dogs across London. I am an independent MRCVS-registered vet and you deal directly with me from your first message.
If you are worried that your dog is suffering or you think the time may have come, contact me. I will talk through the situation with you and let you know what I can offer.
What happens during a home euthanasia visit?
We talk first
I'll listen to what is happening and explain the process before we begin.
Sedation first
A sedative is given first so your dog becomes deeply relaxed before the euthanasia medication.
You say goodbye
You can stay with your dog, hold them and say goodbye in your own way.
Where does it happen?
Wherever your dog is most comfortable: on their bed, sofa, blanket, in the garden or another familiar place. You can choose what feels right.
Will my dog be frightened or in pain?
My aim is to make the experience as calm and comfortable as possible. I use sedation first so your dog is relaxed before euthanasia. I explain what you may see and what is normal, so you are prepared rather than surprised.
Can the family be there?
Yes. Family members can be present if they wish. Children may also be included where appropriate; I can help you decide how to involve them in a way that feels right for your family.
What is included in the euthanasia fee?
The home euthanasia fee includes my visit, sedation, the euthanasia procedure and the time needed to explain everything and allow you to say goodbye.
How much does dog euthanasia at home cost?
Home euthanasia is £220–£300 depending on your dog’s weight. Cremation and any applicable travel or out-of-hours fees are separate. See the full London pet euthanasia pricing guide for details.
What happens afterwards?
I can help arrange cremation or burial afterwards. We can talk through the available options when you are ready. If you would rather not transport your dog yourself, I can collect them, provide temporary cold storage and transfer them to the crematorium for £70.
How do I know if it is time?
There is rarely one single sign. Look at your dog's comfort, mobility, appetite, breathing, hygiene, enjoyment and good days versus difficult days. If you are unsure, contact me for a conversation. You do not need to have made a final decision before speaking to me.
If you are looking for a vet to put your dog to sleep at home in London, I am happy to talk through your options without pressure.
